Villarreal was found back in 1923 a rather young club compared to its competitors. Club Deportivo Villarreal was the official name of the club and over the cource it has adopted just Villarreal both in Spanish football and internationally. Interesting thing to note here is that this team stayed in lower division for best part of last century. It took them until 1998 to reach Spanish top division. Rest as they say is history.

Since their La Liga debut in 1998 they have gone from strength to strength and now you can consider them consistent team in La Liga who push for top four places every year. Villarreal managed to reach UEFA Champions League semifinals back in 2005 where they were beaten by Arsenal. But they did managed to win couple of Europa League trophies since then. Their most recent win came against giants of English football Manchester United.
